Rachel Zentner ~ Central Wisconsin Counselor

Insights from an Expert Counselor

I am an early-morning writer, a coffee-time philosopher and a mindfully-present psychotherapist almost never found with a to-do list or structured planner.  I thrive on deep, cavernous conversations and the green, mossy smell of the forest while we explore with my overweight lab Ripley.  I am the youngest of two and my aging parents will undoubtedly call me for medical issues as he faints in hospitals.

Two powerful young women chose me to raise them long ago and I am honored to watch my partners’ children write their stories as well.  And my partner?  He shows up.  We clumsily navigate this world together and learn more about ourselves and each other with each perfectly messy day.  I have a private practice as a therapist and coach and love to do speaking gigs on my favorite topics. Thanks for checking the site out and let me know how I can be helpful.

"Rachel has helped me look into myself and learn in so many aspects of my life. She's kind, nonjudgmental and insightful. Life is now a lot more joyful and interesting thanks to her listening and guiding me through tough scenarios."

"Having someone who truly listens is such a gift. Also, Rachel notices and hears the patterns over the conversations of things I can't seem to observe in myself. I'm so grateful for counseling."

During my Master’s program I worked in sexual assault victim services where I learned about how to sit quietly with trauma and believe survivors.  I also worked in an intensive outpatient program for children (day treatment) and learned about how there is a limit to what an individual hour can do for a child if the family isn’t also learning about healing. Upon completing my Master’s program, I began supervision hours for licensure in the treatment foster care system and learned so much about children and adolescents with mental health concerns and their placement in safe environments.  I also did family mental health evaluations for head start and offered treatment plans for families and the systems serving them.  I was offered a position to do individual psychotherapy upon completion of my supervised hours with a outpatient clinic and began to see the potential of one on one, consistent work with someone.  Due to a needed move and family expansion, I took a position on a Native American reservation providing therapy where I learned more about my privilege and ignorance in being raised in a white, racist, patriarchal world. From there, I began more individual work at a nonprofit clinic and also did some group work with men arrested fro domestic violence where I began to understand how violence begets violence and how we are never that far from where we came from.  Currently, I am enjoying contracting with a clinic in my area as well as running my own business… still going deep into how people come to find me and what kind of life they want.  I will promise to stay curious, interested and present on the journey of any work we do together.
